Dear Alumni and Friends of Morgan:
December 2009 marks the end of Dr. Earl S. Richardson’s years as President of Morgan State University. We are proud that over the past 25 years Dr. Richardson has transformed Morgan State University into a nationally recognized institution of higher learning. Before his retirement, alumni chapters across the nation are hosting events in his honor with the goal of raising $50,000 each for the Earl S. Richardson Scholarship Endowment Fund for deserving Morgan students.
The 13 Maryland Alumni Chapters and the Washington DC Alumni Chapter, as a group, will be hosting a MD/DC Remarkable Journey Reception for his retirement to raise the $50,000 target amount. You can participate in this fundraising event directly by attending the Remarkable Journey Reception or indirectly by making a tax deductible contribution to the Endowment Fund.
Our Alumni Chapter is encouraging all alumni and friends to attend the MD/DC Remarkable Journey Reception on Saturday, September 12, 2009 at 7:00 pm to 11:00 pm on thebeautiful campus of Morgan State University. The business attire event is being held in the Carl J. Murphy Fine Arts Center, 2201 Argonne Drive, Baltimore, MD 21251. It features live music, hors d’oeuvres, cash bar, good conversation, a silent auction, pictures with the President, and of course remarks by Dr. Richardson. Tickets are $60.00 per person. Contact Gina Harrell by email at ginajimmie@aol.com or by phone at 301-598-3122 or get your ticket.
If you cannot attend the Remarkable Journey Reception, you can support the fundraising effort by making a check or cash donation to the Earl S. Richardson Scholarship Endowment Fund. You may contribute to the fund by making a pledge to the Morgan State University Foundation in the name of the endowment at www.givetomorgan.com. Or Mail to Gina S. Harrell, MSUAA-DC Remarkable Journey Celebration, P.O. Box 4146, Rockville, MD 20849-4146. Please include the name of the chapter in the memo line of your check.
Eight of every ten Morgan students receive some form of financial aid, yet many end up leaving the University because of insufficient funds. They need your support more than ever. Each MD/DC Alumni Chapter will combine all contributions into one donation to the Earl S. Richardson Endowment Fund. Please send whatever you can, no amount is too small and every dollar helps.
