About Us
The Washington, DC Metropolitan Area Alumni Chapter of the Morgan State University National Alumni Association was chartered in 1948 by 12 enthusiastic local graduates of Morgan State College.
In 2005, the Chapter established a $ 10,000 scholarship fund in the name of Vestah W. Blye, one of the chapter’s charter members. Since the fund’s establishment, the Chapter has contributed over $ 20,000 to the Morgan State University Foundation, Inc. to provide scholarships to worthy students from the Washington, DC Metropolitan Area. Each year the Chapter provides three to five scholarships for area students to attend Morgan. Each scholarship recipient is required to volunteer in the Office of Alumni Affairs and Relations.
The Chapter has supported the university and the National Alumni Association by making contributions to annual Alumni Day Awards Luncheon, homecoming activities, the annual President Gala, the Morgan Choir, and the Morgan Parents Club. Two of the Chapter’s premier events are its annual crab feast and the Morgan Choir concert. Profits from both of these events benefit the scholarship fund.
Because of its outstanding financial support and its commitment and dedication to Morgan and its students, the Washington, DC Metropolitan Area Alumni Chapter was recognized as Chapter of the Year in 2006 by the National Alumni Association. The Chapter continues to make donations to various area charities, participate in local college fairs, and other activities in support of Morgan.
More than 20 chapter members hold life membership.
